Kingsley care homes in Diss

At Oaklands we focus on replicating life in the individuals’ own homes wherever possible. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, and we welcome residents bringing in their own furnishings.

Oaklands’ Decor

At Oaklands we focus on replicating life in the individuals’ own homes wherever possible. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, and we welcome residents bringing in their own furnishings.

There is also a diverse selection of communal areas, both busy and quiet, so residents have control of the social aspects of their day-to-day lives.

The home is decorated throughout with interesting items that appeal to all, and often especially those with a dementia. Take a look at the 360° tour, where you will find the School and Music Corridor and Sports Corridor – there’s nothing run-of-the-mill about this home!

Our residents make full use of the garden and patio areas during the warmer months of the year to sit and read or chat, or just to relax and get some sun.

The people, environment and embedded Kingsley culture all go towards creating a one-big-family feeling at Oaklands. Staff eat with the residents and even work with individuals who enjoy helping out around the home. We ensure the dining area is a communal family experience with everyone interacting, which creates a positive atmosphere throughout the home. We do not wear uniforms either, which aids in the creation of a more relaxed and comfortable environment. Staff are trained and skilled in involving individuals in the numerous activities available, and they become more like family to the residents.

Oaklands’ ‘open house’ policy means that visitors are welcome at all times and residents are supported as they maintain and develop existing relationships with their family and friends. All friends and family are able and welcome to participate in meetings and surveys if they wish, and their suggestions always make a valuable contribution. This all forms part of our truly person-centred approach to care.

Friends and family can also subscribe to paper or electronic versions of our bi-monthly newsletter, which contains news and announcements about the home and its residents.

Oaklands has a calm and relaxed environment, providing optional activities throughout the day. You can have coffee with friends and family or simply enjoy your own company – the choice is yours. There are always opportunities to help in the running of the home (light domestic tasks), which some residents enjoy.

Our goal is for all our residents to feel relaxed and happy. We understand that everyone is unique, which is why we assess each resident individually and organise activities around them, allowing them to choose whether to join in or not. We read, listen to, discuss and understand our residents’ life stories, tastes, interests and hobbies.

Once we know all about our residents, we can think of ways in which to get them interested and involved. Our person centred care is focused around each person’s individual needs and wishes, and we value and respect how each individual chooses to spend their day. We not only aim to meet an individual’s physical needs but also their emotional and spiritual needs.

We also support our residents in maintaining their independence as much as possible, by embracing and encouraging ways in which they can achieve this.

We want all our residents to live as healthily as possible, to enjoy long and pleasant lives. We encourage exercise, keeping minds active and eating nutritious food. Our healthy meals are made from scratch in our kitchen using only the best, locally sourced ingredients.

We also realise that eating habits vary, and our cook is able to provide a varied diet to meet everyone’s needs. The menu is regularly updated to keep meal times interesting.

Breakfast is from 8 a.m. until about 10:30 a.m., lunch is 12:30 p.m. and tea/supper is 5 p.m., but residents have a choice of drinks and snacks throughout the day, such as cakes, fruit, biscuits, cheese and yogurts.

Oaklands lies in a small south Norfolk village, just four miles from Diss with easy access to the A140 and A143. Both the Norwich and Gt Yarmouth buses travel through the village, which has a shop, and a public house.

The home is a beautiful, tastefully converted grade II listed Georgian manor house with rooms for 53 residents and plenty of communal areas. Visually attractive inside and out, the home has large, well-maintained grounds that residents can and do enjoy all year round.

Oaklands has had a recent programme of refurbishment, and has been carefully and tastefully modernised to provide exceptional care in a truly homely environment. The home still retains its high ceilings and many of its original features, such as the grand sweeping staircase.

The home, as will see if you have a look at the 360° tour, has so much character, and with its wealth of interesting ornaments, objects d’art, pictures and talking points, it never ceases to please and entertain. The friendly staff always extend a warm welcome too, so visitors tend to be immediately put at their ease.

The home is very well appointed with private rooms, suites and pleasant common areas, including a large dining room, lounge, school and music corridor, sports corridor, conservatory, garden and patios.

Each bedroom is finished to the highest standard, but can be individualised and decorated to personal taste. They are also fitted with necessary aids such as call bell systems, door alarms and wet rooms. Baths are fitted in en suite rooms, and the following are available should the need arise: pressure mats, pressure-relieving equipment, hoists, stand aids and lifts.

As with all Kingsley homes, our daily emphasis is on the care that our residents need, whether that be physical, emotional or mental.

We actively encourage those who are considering living here to visit and spend some time at the home to gain an accurate perception of the care we offer. It will give you an opportunity to meet the team and ask any questions you may have. The home manager, Helen, will be more than happy to show you around and introduce you to everyone.

The team at Oaklands are qualified staff that have been handpicked because of their personalities and their heartfelt qualities. Each and every one of them is willing to go the extra mile for the residents.

We pride ourselves on employing individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Nurturing – Being able to provide comfort, security and a sense of belonging
  • Togetherness – Being a friend to individuals on an equal basis, eliminating feelings of alienation and loneliness
  • Spontaneity – Being able to create opportunities which will engage individuals in a meaningful way
  • Feeling – Being able to be emotionally warm, offering understanding to each individual
