Kingsley care homes in Manchester, care homes in Altrincham

As with all the homes within the Kingsley Healthcare Group, ‘person centred care’ is at the centre of everything we do. This approach concentrates on providing a personalised care package with the individual’s quality of life and dignity at its core.

The experience of individuals living at Timperley is that of love, achievement, well-being, encouragement and fulfillment. The staff within the home are all of a kind and caring nature and create a strong family feel within the home, in that the residents feel loved and valued.

Person centred care means that we learn about our residents’ life stories, tastes, interests and hobbies, with a view to incorporating these into their everyday life. Residents are encouraged to bring along their own furnishings and furniture, where possible, to create their own personal space filled with happy memories.

We also support our residents in maintaining their independence as much as possible, embracing and encouraging ways in which they can achieve this.

The people, environment and embedded Kingsley culture all go towards creating a home-from-home family feeling at Timperley. Staff eat with the residents and work with some individuals that enjoy helping out around the home. We ensure the dining area is a communal family experience with everyone interacting, which creates a positive atmosphere throughout the home. Staff are trained and skilled in involving individuals in the numerous activities available, and become more like family to the residents.

Timperley has a calm, relaxed atmosphere in which individuals enjoy experience fun, love and laughter. As such, there is no typical day, because activities can often be spontaneous and are always varied.

The individuals who live at Timperley can rise at a time of their choice and opt to have breakfast in bed or in one of the many lounges/dining rooms. There is no set breakfast – residents can choose whatever they like, from cereal, toast, porridge, fruit, pastries, a full English, or even a chip butty. They have as many breakfasts as they like, together with as much tea or coffee as they could wish for.

Breakfast is followed by a varied list of optional activities. As part of person centred care, individuals will have activities to suit them and their personal tastes. They will always be encouraged to take part by caring staff; however, no one will be forced to join in an activity if they would rather not. Residents and staff are friends at Timperley, and some individuals enjoy helping to wash the dishes, fold the laundry and set the tables. Others enjoy crosswords, jigsaws, singing, knitting and walking around the grounds or petting the rabbits. Staff are always on hand for whatever is needed throughout the day.

Hot drinks and snacks are always available, and there are two easily accessible kitchenettes so that residents can make their own drinks.

Lunchtime always offers at least two choices of a main meal and at least two choices of dessert. All the food available is fresh; home cooked and local produce is used where possible. If individuals prefer something other than the menu, they just let us know and we accommodate their wishes as much as we can for that day and for future meals.

Timperley has an open door policy which means residents can have visitors whenever they like – they are even welcome to come for meals, which can be eaten wherever they like.

Activities in the afternoon again are tailored to suit individuals as much as possible. The optional activities programme often includes sing-alongs and regular visits from a variety of singers and entertainers. Sometimes the home has a special visit from ‘Zoo therapy’, who bring animals such as Hiccup the giant African snail, Fluffy the tarantula, Heimlich the millipede, Alan the wide-mouthed frog, Raphael the tortoise, Syd the snake and Lilo the rat. Residents enjoy holding some of the creatures, despite their fearsome reputations! A beauty therapist, hairdresser and chiropodist also visit regularly. Trips are often organised for residents to visit different attractions in the area, such as the local donkey sanctuary, nearby parks and cafés. Residents’ special occasions are all celebrated and catered for within the home.

The home ensures that everyone’s spiritual needs are recognised and met. For example, both the Catholic and Church of England communities visit regularly to deliver services and give Holy Communion if desired.

As a home offering nursing care, one of our primary focuses is of course on physical health. The home has close links with local GPs, podiatrists, speech and language therapists, dieticians and social workers, and there are often visits from and to these service providers.

For evening meals there is a minimum of two choices both for mains and desserts, but if residents prefer something else they let us know and we aim to accommodate their wishes.

Some people may wish to go to bed early, which is fine, while others like to stay up, curling up on the settees to watch TV or relaxing with the staff.

Suppertime provides choices of food and drink, such as biscuits, a slice of cake or a banana, and some residents enjoy an alcoholic drink.

Residents can choose what time they would like to go to bed, and while up, there is a variety of lounges and social areas to relax in.

The development challenges the usual perceptions of care homes by offering a residence providing high quality care to seniors, whether they need nursing, residential or dementia care; a safe place anybody would be proud to call home.

The building itself has been designed with the idea of care in mind from the foundations up, so it features wide corridors and large open spaces in which senior residents can comfortably relax and socialize. There are landscaped garden areas, pleasant patios and a large amount of comfortable, relatively private and communal areas. We even have a newly refurbished old English tea room. And because we encourage an open door policy for all family and friends at all times, there is a lovely, relaxed atmosphere where you are promised the warmest of welcomes.

Access and physical aids

The home has kitchenettes in which Timperley residents can make their own drinks if they wish, and we have our own hairdressing salon and therapy suite.

Every private room has en suite shower and toilet facilities, but there are also six wheelchair accessible bathrooms with assisted technology. All floors are accessible by two lifts, and all the following are available:

  • Specialised mattresses
  • Call bells
  • Pressure mats
  • Door alarms

We also provide full laundry and domestic services.

Although the home is purpose built, we like to create a home from home atmosphere, so residents are positively encouraged to decorate their room as they wish.

Award-winning home

Each of the Kingsley care homes differs in some way from the others; however, at each of our care homes we have a common set of highly respected and award-winning features embedded within the culture, and the way we care for our residents makes a remarkable difference. Timperley has won a variety of awards so far, including the Investors in People award, Trafford Dementia Kite Mark Award, Dignity in Care Award and the North-west End of Life Care Award. We are also a member of the Cinnamon Trust. Our standards are only set to increase as Kingsley continues to implement their set of training and development practices.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time regarding any care matter. We will be happy to help you find the right care and we strive to give you whatever support and guidance you need.
