The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home in October found the service to be good overall and good in every category, judging it to be caring, safe, effective, responsive and well-led.
Home manager Maria Volentiru said: “We are pleased to have maintained our good rating and welcome the inspectors’ positive comments.
“We care about everyone involved with the home and are continuously looking to improve. Every member of my team shares my vision and makes a fantastic difference to people’s lives.”
Inspectors reported that people they had spoken to described staff as kind, patient and polite. One person said: “We are looked after really, really well. Staff are very good. I know them very well and I get such great attention.”
Another resident said: “The staff are caring, jolly, they can’t do enough.”
Inspectors said they noticed positive interactions between staff and residents throughout the inspection and calls for assistance were answered promptly.
Records showed that people using the service and their relatives were fully involved in making decisions about their support.
The report said training was good and staff demonstrated their skills and knowledge during the inspection.
People’s nutritional needs were assessed and monitored and they received meals that met their individual dietary needs and preferences.
Inspectors were satisfied by the level of staffing and were told by one resident: “If I need help I just give a shout, they can hear me and, anyway, they are always giving us a look in to see we are OK.”
They observed that staff had the time to engage with people when providing support.
The report highlights the fact residents are involved in a range of activities and that two activities coordinators are employed at The Depperhaugh.
The inspectors observed: “On the day of our visit people were given the opportunity to attend communion and were also involved in carving pumpkins for Halloween. The manager told us that during the summer regular trips into the local town were organised.”
Staff, residents and relatives were complimentary about the home manager, describing her as “excellent”, “hands-on”, with a good knowledge of the residents.
Staff said they were proud to work at The Depperhaugh, one saying: “It is a lovely place to work, like home, we are a family.”
