Paramedic to speak at Sharston House coffee morning

Sharston House Nursing Home has relaunched its monthly ‘Care Cafe’ coffee morning for 2018, hosting a range of speakers and kick-starting the year with a paramedic’s visit.

The Manor Park South home invites carers to join them on the last Thursday of each month for the coffee morning, and from January 25 will see guests attend to deliver talks on relevant issues.

Carol Robertson, a community specialist paramedic with North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, will be the first to speak from 10am to 12.30pm on Thursday, January 25, covering topics of special importance to elderly people.

She will provide advice on what to do if someone has a fall, how to carry out (CPR), and explain in what circumstances you should call 999.

The talk at the Kingsley Healthcare-run home is open to the public.

Sharston House activities coordinator Stacey Hinton said: “Carol says her presentation will be wide-ranging but she will also answer any questions people may have.

“As well as the talk we will prepare a spread of cakes, cream and jam scones and other refreshments.”

She said she planned to invite topical speakers to future care cafes, which always take place on the last Thursday of every month.

Sharston manager David Costa said: “This is our way of saying, ‘if you care, we care’.

“You might work as a carer, care for a family member or just help out your neighbour by doing their shopping for them once a week. We want to say thank you to you all.

“It is really important for our residents to still feel part of their community and this is a great way of bringing people into the home from the local area.”
