Frequently Asked Questions

How do you choose a suitable home?

For most people the type of care they need and locations are two of the key factors in any decision. Your wishes should always a key factor. We would always suggest visiting any home you’re considering to get a feel for what it’s like. We’re always more than happy to meet with you, discuss your needs and help you plan for any care you may require.

Personal recommendations are a good starting point, but do remember homes can change, and what’s good for a friend may not be right for you!

What services do residential care homes provide?

Residential care can be provided in a residential or nursing home. There is no common denominator between homes and these can be very small family style homes or much larger establishments. At Kingsley our homes are of all different sizes and types so that we have enough options to suit everyone, making sure it feels right for the individual.  All homes should provide at least the same level of care that could be provided by a caring relative.

To help you decide which to look at, residential care homes provide care during old age or a short illness, however they do not provide the constant nursing care which you would find in a nursing home.

What service does a nursing home provide?

Nursing homes provide everything that a residential care home provides with the added factor that they provide a nurse on duty at all times. Nursing homes therefore have the ability to help with medication and general nursing tasks. These homes are for people who are physically or mentally frail or people who may need more regular attention from a nurse.

Care Fees

How do I Pay for Care ?

It is difficult to give an exact cost as there are variable factors such as :

·         The type and level of care required

·         Location of the care home

·         The size and style of your room

If you have a specific home in mind, you can contact the Home Manager directly to discuss fees and the services that are included. Before this you may wish to establish whether or not you are eligible for assistance.

Will I get help paying for care?

This will depend on where you are in the UK and your level of savings.

If your savings are below £14,250 the local authority may pay for your care.

For every £250 you have in excess of this amount the authorities will pay £1 less and you will have to make this contribution to your care home fees.

If your capital is above the levels £23,230 you will have to pay the full costs of your care.

If you can afford to pay for a place in a home yourself and you are able to make all your own arrangements you can deal directly with your chosen home.

There may come a point when you can’t afford to pay the fee (when your savings fall to the lower capital limit or less) and you need to seek financial help from your local authority. At this point you will need to ask for a care assessment. This assessment of your needs might not include paying for your chosen home, if for example your care home costs more that the local authority would normally pay , then they might say that:

·         They want to move you to a care home costing no more than their usual amount

·         A third party, for example, a relative or friend, will have to provide a top- up payment to make up the extra cost.

Assistance with Nursing or Personal Care costs

Even if you are able to pay for some or all of your care on your own you may still be eligible for assistance with personal care and or nursing care costs. The amount of this contribution form the state or NHS is currently £108.70 per week (nursing care)
